Hips, Low Back & Psoas

May 9-10

From 95 US dollars
Studio; 601 N 3rd

Service Description

Our back and hips can take on a lot of strain as they support and carry us through this life. Additionally, weaving through this core region is the psoas muscle group, which connects upper and lower body movement and anchors physical and mental control. There are many misunderstood pains and restrictions that either stem from or end up in this area. Liberating congestion in the psoas, low back and/or hips is a great way to assist clients in reclaiming their bodies. The hip area is a beautifully complex network of ligaments, tendons and muscles. Thus, therapeutic bodywork in this area can be specific and precise. We’ll spend two days exploring the intricacies. This class is intended for massage therapists (table or Thai) who would like to offer deep, permanent healing for chronic ailments. The techniques are based on Thai bodywork theory, but these techniques can easily be applied to the table. Most work will be done on floor mats, but we will have a massage table available for any therapists who would prefer to work on a table. All mats and tables will have Christopher’s trademarked Strap Support System available for those interested in practicing with straps. Topics covered: Precise points and techniques to use for the hips, low back, psoas and upper legs. The use of long-held compressions and the breath. Therapist’s body positioning. There are many ways to accomplish the same goal; we will help you find the most comfortable way that best suits your body. Comfort and ease are critical for maintaining the longevity of a bodyworker’s career. Self-care techniques to inspire your clients to take care of their bodies. Long-held compressions have always been a part of massage (especially Thai Massage) simply because they are so effective. However, they are uncommonly used either because it becomes painful for the practitioner or ineffective because there is a lack of training in the subtleties and direction of compression work. Christopher Ray’s 25+ years of massage work has focused around long-held compressions, and through experience, he has turned this style of Thai bodywork into a powerfully therapeutic art-form. Prerequisite: Minimum 1-yr massage experience and an understanding of the regional anatomy. The details: Class runs from 9am-5pm each day with an hour lunch break. You will receive 14 ceu's. (NCBTMB) Cost is $395. Deposit is non-refundable one month before class begins
