Taijiquan (Tai Chi), Qigong & Budo Arts
Service Description
The gentle movement practices known in the West as Tai Chi and Qigong (TCQG) are rooted in ancient Taoist philosophies that aim to promote longevity, health, vitality, and well-being. These practices, which focus on harnessing energy (Chi) and breath (Qi), are believed to date back to at least the eighth century BCE in China. Because they emphasize internal health, they are referred to as internal arts. TCQG is reparative, therapeutic, cathartic, and transformational. A significant amount of research supports their benefits for various health conditions. Join the Marquette Tai Chi Qigong Club and Chief Instructor Sensei Traci Baxendale Ball for Taijiquan (Tai Chi), Qigong, and Budo (Japanese martial arts) every Monday at 6:30 pm. This two-hour class includes a full hour of Qigong (moving meditation) with a five-element practice to cleanse organs. Qigong promotes relaxation, joint loosening, gentle stretching, calms the mind, develops spatial awareness, and enhances balance. After Qigong, the class moves into formal martial arts instruction. Students explore the intricate set of movements that combine all four major styles of Taijiquan, often referred to as the Combined 42 Forms. Formal Bo (or stick) practice helps students develop proficiency with weapons, while integrating other martial arts such as kickboxing and self-defense systems, deepens students' understanding of Taijiquan applications. Students can attend either one or both hours; the cost is the same. Drop-ins and beginners are welcome. Dr. Traci Baxendale Ball is a 3rd Dan (black belt), licensed and endorsed by Zanshin Karate Great Britain (UK), Tai Chi for Health Institute (AUS), and the International Medical Tai Chi Qigong Association (US). She is the founder of the trademark brand Tai Chi for Recovery. She has trained, competed, and provided quality instruction around the world since 1985.
